The Symbolism of Fall

We can learn much from Booker T. Washington's life and the quotes of wisdom he left for us to understand about life. One of my favorite quotes is: "The happiest people are those who do the most for others." Email me as I would love to hear from you about the acts of kindness you have or are doing for others.

BookFest

The Bookfest 2022 was a great success! If you missed it, you may watch the replay by clicking on the word BookFest. BookFest is for everyone who loves books. I was honored to be a guest during the Halloween Author segment. I was interviewed by celebrated author A. G. Billing and acclaimed producer, Herbie J. Pilato.

I did a snippet reading of Charlie and the Tire Swing! I hope you enjoy watching the interview. I am about 7 minutes and 20 seconds into the interview. Be sure to check out the work of A. G. Billing and Herbie J. Pilato.

Trunk or Treat!

When I was growing up, Halloween was mainly for kids. My parents bought us simple costumes, "Masks." We loved those masks and could not wait for the night to begin. I generally went with my brother Danny, and we were proud of our paper sack filled with more candy than a child could ever imagine. Of course, we had to turn the bag into our parents for approval.

They enjoyed some chocolate before we saw the bag again. It was a fun night. This past Saturday, my husband and I participated in our first "Trunk or Treat" at our church.  We had fun figuring out how to decorate the trunk, and the children enjoyed it.

Of course, I dressed in my witches' costume as it seems to be a favorite among the young children at church. What did you do for Halloween?

Chateau Bellevue

I recently became a member of the Austin Women's Club. The women's group us involved in many projects in Austin and one is to preserve the history and the Chateau. For you history buffs here is a tiny bit of information but be sure to check out the rest of the history by clicking on Chateau Bellevue or better yet join.

"Built-in 1874, Chateau Bellevue is romantic and elegant, with French Romanesque arches, beautiful courtyard grounds, a spacious ballroom, ornate hand-carved woodwork and stunning stained glass windows.

Chateau Bellevue has been the headquarters of the Austin Woman's Club since 1929 and the Junior Austin Woman’s Club from 1940- 2019."

World Jenny's Day!

World Jenny's Day 2022 is hosted by Jenny's mom she started World Jenny's Day to:  "... embraces theatre and the arts to soften and normalise conversations around depression, suicide and its solutions as well as to celebrate Mental Health Wellness."

What Am I Up To!

What have I been doing - I had the pleasure of traveling to Virginia and Maine. Each place holds special memories and, of course, inspires more stories. I mentioned in my last blog how excited I was to turn in my first draft to Rise a Girl's Struggle for More! I will keep you posted on how that is progressing. Also, I turned in a story to my editor, which is always an exciting accomplishment. I have more ideas floating in my mind; it will be fun to see where they lead me. Stay tuned!

A little background behind the story.

I am excited to see "Charlie and the Tire Swing! How It Began!" in the stores and online for purchase! Several people have asked me how I write stories so quickly, so I decided to share a little insight into my writing world with all of you. When I first came up with the idea of writing a story about a little boy and his tire swing -- I wanted to share his adventures. My son is the inspiration for the stories as he enjoyed his tire swing so much that he could not wait to go outside and play. He would often ask me to come and watch him and tell me stories as he played and went on adventures.

So today, I look back on fond memories as a young mom watching my son enjoy his imagination. In speaking with my publisher, we realized it would be fun to have a story that shared how the tire swing came to be. So now you have the first book,  "Charlie and the Tire Swing! How It Began!"I love this story on so many levels. As many of you know, family history is important to me. This story is an intergenerational story. I hope it will bring questions from the young listener to ask about their great-grandparents and grandparent. I would enjoy hearing from you about your own generational stories!

Join the Celebration!

Be sure to join the celebration of "Charlie and the Tire Swing How it Began!" On Facebook live - OC Publishing;  October 11 at 2:00. You will hear behind the scenes with the illustrator, Judy Gaudet, the publisher, and myself.

September Updates 2022

What Brings You Joy!

What brings you Joy? I am curious to know. In the past month, I have met people who used the word Joy in conversations with me. For example: in their book title is a documentary, a company. I was happy to hear this word used because I find it's a small word that packs a punch. So, 'JOY,' what do you think when you hear the word-- Happy, Love, Kindness? I would love to hear from you. The word makes me smile; the word brings out this young child in me. Maybe it is because I always loved singing the song "I have the Joy Joy Joy Joy! Down in My heart."

So what brings me 'JOY,' family, Remi, our dog, baking for others, and working in my garden - AND - FALL is around the corner! I am so excited. I am already looking at Fall flowers to plant and recipes to make on a cold day. So whatever brings you 'Joy' as we approach September, may it plant one giant smile on your face and heart.

Coming this October!

I am happy to announce a new children's book: 'Charlie and the Tire Swing'! It will hit the stands on October 8th! Watch for the book launch, tours, reviews, and interviews! Preorders are on Amazon and your local bookstores!

August Updates 2022

August Updates 2022

Hello August

Do you ever wonder how the summer flew by so quickly? I don't know about you, but it has been brutally hot here in Texas, and other states. It is essential to stay hydrated, so I wanted to share with you this site: Every Day Health, which has simple ways to stay hydrated.

Eco Artist Grant Manier

II had the privilege to attend the unveiling of Grant Manier's latest project, the design of the new 'Goya Can' for marketing. Grant's inspiration for the can is nothing short but inspired by the heavens. To hear how he came up with the design is an incredible story. You can check out all of Grant's children's books and his artwork at Jigsaw Grant.

The Ocean is Inspirational!

As you can tell, I love the ocean so much that I could not help but run out and feel the waves coming to shore. There are many oceans in the world, and I love them all but Galveston, Texas, holds a unique candle in my heart as it is where my parents took us for summer fun. I have some of the best childhood memories with my brothers and watching my parents laugh and enjoy the waves. My dad loved to walk what seemed far away as a kid, and then he would float on his back and ride the waves in, while my mom would jump into the waves. When I return to Galveston, my imagination is reenergized with the ocean's sounds and the birds flying. I hope you have a special place to go for wonderful childhood memories to share with your family too. If ever you want to share a story, I would love to hear all about it. Till next time go out and embrace a wave!

A Time to Fly!

t is finally here! I am thrilled to hold this book in my hands! To be honest with each new book it is an overwhelming feeling to see it for the first time.  It truly is an inspirational story to believe in yourself and know you can do it. It might take a few falls before you soar but you will. The story is based on the bluebirds that hatched in our backyard and my family and I had the opportunity to watch them gain the courage to fly with their parents help.  I was so touched by the love of the bluebirds; parents that I just had to tell their story. Let me know how the story inspires your family and the conversations that take place while reading the story. You can find it on Amazon,. Barnes and Noble and other local bookstores.

July Updates 2022

July Updates 2022

Two sides of a celebration

In my newsletter, I briefly stated the importance of the 4th of July.

Yes, independence day but also my mom's birthday. Mom loved having her birthday on the 4th because of all the fireworks and parades. One of my brothers would decorate his golf cart, and mom and other family members would join her, and I was the camera lady. The fourth is not the same, but I am glad she is experiencing the greatest love with our Lord.

Road Trip

Summertime is here and this Texas girl with her husband and Remi, our dog, took off to visit family members and friends. Remi had her first long road trip. We covered Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, DC, and of course, Texas. Remi loved it. Remember to buckle up your pets.

Family

I mentioned one of my hobbies is genealogy. I enjoy being a member of Ancestry.com and have been a member from the beginning. I did the DNA and have connected with cousins I did not know I had, and we have privately shared pictures. One cousin I was able to meet on this road trip. When we met in person for the first time at a restaurant, we had to laugh because we both were wearing a red shirts with white stripes. We had a great time, and you would have thought we knew each other our whole life; we hated to part as we had so much to share. I encourage everyone to check out their family history. There is nothing like family!

My New Book!

I am super excited for you to see the cover. The Illustrator Nancy Hoover did an incredible job with the story. You are going to love her work. Also, mark your calendar for August 2nd for the book launch. Join us on the Texas Sister Press Facebook page. There will be prizes and guest author. You could win a book. You can preorder now on Amazon so that I can have a huge launch on the 2nd.

A time to celebrate dads!

A picture of my dad and I at a park near our home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

My dad lived during the depression years; he joined the Navy when he turned 18 to do his part for our country. My dad worked hard and eventually went into business with a friend, and they built a successful company. He taught all of us kids to have good work ethics. He and my mom provided for their six children and gave us a solid spiritual foundation and 'to believe in ourselves.' Thank you, dad, for all your sacrifices for your family to grow strong.

Happy Heavenly Father's Day!

Summer Time!

I agree with the school children; summer is a time for fun! No school. My husband and I will be enjoying road trips, family, hiking, and fun times on the water. We have kicked the summer off to enjoy Inks Lake and the Longhorn Caverns. I find exploring inspirational, and new ideas flow for my writing.

The George Floyd Scholarships

Since 2000, two scholarships are given to a student in baseball and music in honor of my dad's high school alma mater, Collinsville High school. This year the music scholarship goes to Emma Nolte and the baseball scholarship goes to Landon Bunch. Congratulations and may your new adventures in college be fabulous!

Media Update

A busy month of interviews and school visits online and off.

The Uncaged Magazine writes on the Little Girl in the Moon and the Big Idea. WOW!

This book is one of my favorite stories. While working on the story, I knew I needed the poem/song, but the words were not coming to me. Then one night, while I was sleeping, the poem/song came to me, and I had to wake up and write the words down immediately. I am thrilled about the book and to have an article about the story in The Uncaged Magazine. When you read the article, please note that the photographer Bridget Karam took all the pictures of me. She is fantastic, and you can learn more about her at www.bridgetkaram.com
