Remembering Danny

I would like to take a moment and remember my brother Danny. We lost him several years ago to diabetes. What a dreadful disease. I do not know about you but in my case I did not realize how many memories we shared until I started telling a story to my younger brothers and of course they were babies and they did not know what I was talking about. I could not call Danny and say, “Danny, tell them this story really happened.”

My daughter Katherine wrote a song and recorded it for him the night he went to heaven. Angel at Dawn. She referred to a tree, which was one Danny and I climbed when we were kids. I hope you enjoy the song. I would love to have your thoughts.

May Celebration

I always have a reason to celebrate in May, My youngest daughter's birthday, flowers blooming the trees with bright green leaves. One can only be inspired by the colors of Spring and family celebrations.

Gardening

Everyone find inspirations in their own way. I have several ways, but lately it has been pulling weeds and planting new flowers and bushes. When I was small, I would make mud pies in the backyard with my little white cat, Angel, watching me. I guess gardening takes the place of mud pies and my dog, Remi, takes the place of my sweet kitty. New ideas come up when you least expect them. It is not always about books, it can be family things, memories of watching my mom garden or my dad mowing the lawn with the push mower (the days before gas lawn mowers). I would love to hear the things you do for inspiration.

I had the pleasure to reading to the 4-year-old at Michael’s Episcopal  Day School in Austin, Texas. I always enjoy being in a classroom. I enjoyed reading Harry the Camel to them and sharing where Harry the Camel lives. What it is like to be a camel and then read the story. We created a make believe sandstorm as we read the story. It was great fun, and the children learned it is not nice to teach and to love yourself just the way you are.

What I Am Up To...

• My new illustrator for the Boomer Series is busy working on the new release of Boomer the Curious Bunny that should be out in early summer.
• I am now editing the second Boomer book.
• I am super excited for you to see Boomer’s new look and read his adventures.

Spring Is Here!

I love all the seasons, as each one holds a special beauty of its own. For Me Spring is an exciting time because you watch the nature come alive with all the magical colors, from the flowers blooming, bird’s eggs hatching, to the bees enjoying the fresh nectar of the flowers.

Here is a picture I took of the wildflowers by our home.  The picture does not even do justice to the brilliant colors each flowers posses.

Author Interview

I enjoyed my interview with Maria Raydun! Maria had me reflect on the ins and outs of what inspired me to write the sequel to Rise a Girls’s Struggle for more published by OC Publishing. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed the interview.

Writing!

It seems the past two months have disappeared in a flash. I have been busy working on two more children’s books. I am in the editing process. You might think that is just making sure the punctuation and spelling are correct, but there is so much more. I am checking the grade level for the reader, the flow of the story, and even testing the story out with some young readers to get their insights. I enjoy each stage of writing. Though I must admit when the publisher puts their seal of approval, I am overjoyed.
