Thanksgiving

In the United States celebrates Thanksgiving the last Thursday in November every year. In my family Thanksgiving is a big celebration as we basically have a family reunion. During our celebration, we express gratitude to all the farmers, ranchers, and everyone else involved in bringing us the food we enjoy. We give thanks to God for the blessings in life and we remember our family members who are now in heaven. We also follow our parents’ lead to use this day to bring cousins together to celebrate family and keep the tradition of celebrating with extended family – as family is everything. For you and your family, I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving when and where you celebrate in the world

Life

I I wish I could say I have been doing a lot of writing, but as they say, you can plan to do one thing, but life can throw you a curve ball, and life sent a huge one my way. My brother, Mike, who was not even sick, left this world. It was a shocker. It is amazing how a person can be so full of life, have so many plans with his family and then poof. No more. His family and mine can continue on knowing that Mike, who loved our Lord, is discovering just how great His love is. It is hard to breathe, but I have to take a deep breath and give thanks for the time we had. He was visiting John and I about 3 weeks ago and we made plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Who knew that hug, and love you, would be the last we would ever have? So please, love your kids, loved ones, and tell them just how much they mean. Every day is a gift; let gratitude be our daily practice.

 I am sure you are like me and ask, “Why can’t we all get along?”

Rise! A Girl’s Struggle for More is an old-fashioned, historical family drama-a sweet, yet edgy, coming of age story. Set in the 1920s, it is based on the life of the author’s grandmother. The main character, Ruby Pearl, is mature beyond her years and was born at least a decade too soon. Growing up in the middle of a family of nine children in Oilton, Oklahoma, with her nose constantly in a book, she was known as the girl that would rather read than can tomatoes. Ruby feels destined for greater things. Ruby studies hard to make good grades, while her parents smile and humor her. They continually encourage the courtship with her beau, Arthur, who they fully expect will be their son-in-law when the two graduate from high school, but Ruby has loftier goals. She admires her momma and big sister, Rilla, the “CEOs of the household” and knows some day she will have children and a home of her own to manage, but first things first!

Rise! A Girl’s Struggle for More is Anne of Green Gables meets the “It Girl” of the 20s … but with a sophisticated twist. Ruby’s ‘coming of age’ story evolves amidst the backdrop of a horse and buggy town welcoming its first motor cars, and parents brought up in the Victorian era grappling with their daughters showing their ankles and dating! Following the inspiration of the suffrage movement, Ruby becomes a pioneer for girls her age, breaking all norms, defying tradition (and her parents) to become a truly independent woman.
