One common thread is The Power of words: The more we understand and build our vocabulary, the more fun we can have with expressing ourselves in song, stories, acting and poetry.

  1. Dwight Adair Adair is a professional filmmaker, producer and writer. His headquarters is in Austin, Texas.
  2. Sandra Bullock Bullock is a famous American actress and philanthropist.
  3. Gelsey Kirland (1952) An American Ballerina.

Biographies

Thomas Newcomen (1664 – 1729) An English inventor who invented a practical steam engine.

Dorothea Lange (1895 – 1965) An American documentary photographer and photojournalist.

Coco Chanel (1883) A french fashion designer who changed the world of fashion.

Homophone

A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but has a different spelling and meaning.

1. Cede > Seed

  • The leader did not want to cede his land.
  • He planted the oak seed in the ceramic pot.

2. Carrot > Karat

  • The rabbit liked the carrot.
  • The diamond was only one karat.

3.  Cached > Cashed

  • The computer cache was full.
  • He cashed the check.

Antonyms

An Antonym is a word that has the opposite meaning of another word.

1. Health > Disease

  • She is in perfect health.
  • What disease does he have?

2. Awful > Delicious

  • We are in an awful situation.
  • The cake is delicious.

3. Attack > Defend

  • He has designed his plan of attack.
  • Please defend your beliefs.

Synonyms

A Synonym is a word or phrase that means close to or exactly the same as another word.

1. Gash > Slash

  • It is a huge gash.
  • How did you get the slash?

2. Certain > Sure

  • He was certain he had the facts right.
  • He was sure he had his facts right.

3. Conclude > Finish

  • Please conclude the speech.
  • Please finish the speech.
