One common thread is The Power of words: The more we understand and build our vocabulary, the more fun we can have with expressing ourselves in song, stories, acting and poetry.

Homophone

A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but has a different spelling and meaning.

1. Instants > instance

  • In that instance, the world changed.
  • In this instance, you may not go down that hallway.

2. Intents > Intense

  • In all intents and purposes, that was not the reaction they were going for.
  • It was an intense situation.

3. Hurts > Hertz

  • It hurts so much.
  • I was scared when the hertz pulled up.

Antonyms

An Antonym is a word that has the opposite meaning of another word.

1. Interrupt > Continue

  • Please do not interrupt me!
  • Please continue with the story.

2. Brave > Cowardly

  • The dog is very brave the way he saved the girl.
  • He as cowardly as the lion in the Wizard of Oz.

3. Insult > Compliment

  • That was a terrible insult she gave him.
  • What a beautiful compliment he gave her?

Synonyms

A Synonym is a word or phrase that means close to or exactly the same as another word.

1. Enjoy > Relish

  • Please come in and enjoy yourself.
  • He did not relish the situation.

2. Temperamental > Moody

  • She is very temperamental.
  • She is very moody today.

3. Silent > Mute

  • The couple was very silent about their private life.
  • The couple was mute about their private life.
